How the Nights Fit Around Your Flights

Pick the area by your landing time and your next flight, then book the ride to match.

  1. Check your landing time

Before midnight, the rail link, a taxi or a pre-booked car gets you into the city the same night. After midnight the trains have stopped, which is when an airport hotel earns its place.

  2. Choose the area

Several nights in Bangkok point to a hotel near Phaya Thai, Ratchaprarop or Makkasan. One night between flights points to the airport you leave from.

  3. Book the ride to the door

Book the transfer first, then send the operator your flight number, hotel name and address at least 24 hours before you land, as the listing asks.

  4. Plan the way back

For a departure, the driver collects you from the hotel lobby. From an airport hotel you can walk or take the hotel shuttle instead.

Where to Stay

Choosing Where to Sleep Around Your Flights

Central Bangkok on the rail link, the Suvarnabhumi airport hotels and the hotels by Don Mueang.

Most travelers flying into Bangkok should stay near an Airport Rail Link stop in the city: Phaya Thai, Ratchaprarop or Makkasan, 35 to 45 THB and under half an hour from Suvarnabhumi. Sleep at the airport only for a landing after midnight or a dawn flight. A private car from Suvarnabhumi to a Bangkok hotel was $31.96 for up to two travelers, tolls included, when we checked on 12 October 2026.

This is the right base for anyone spending a few nights in Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link leaves Level B1 at Suvarnabhumi from 05:30 to midnight, and only the all-stations City Line runs, so ignore old posts about a 15-minute express. It costs 35 THB to Makkasan, 40 THB to Ratchaprarop and 45 THB to Phaya Thai, about 26 to 30 minutes to the end of the line. At Phaya Thai a covered walkway leads to the BTS Sukhumvit Line, and from Makkasan it is a 7 to 10 minute walk to MRT Phetchaburi. There are no luggage racks on the trains, so with big cases a car to the door is easier.

  • Mercure Bangkok Makkasan. The listing puts Makkasan rail link station and MRT Phetchaburi about a 5-minute walk away, with an outdoor pool and staff on duty 24 hours.
  • Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai. Listed 50 m from BTS Phaya Thai, the rail link terminus, with two pools, a spa and a fitness center.
  • KC Place Hotel Pratunam. The budget pick, about 100 yards from Ratchaprarop station, with an on-site restaurant and a 24-hour front desk.
  • Baiyoke Sky Hotel. An 88-story tower about a 5-minute walk from Ratchaprarop station, with an outdoor pool and an observation deck.

Our Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok city guide covers the train, taxi and bus into each neighborhood.

At Suvarnabhumi Airport

An airport hotel makes sense when you land late and fly out again, or when your flight leaves at dawn. Suvarnabhumi is about 31 km east of the city, so a night here saves that ride twice. The trade-off is plain: there is little to see, and every trip into Bangkok costs time.

  • Hyatt Regency Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Direct access to the terminal, about a 5-minute walk. The listing lets you check in at any time and check out 24 hours later, which suits odd landing times.
  • Siam Mandarina Hotel. Off the airport grounds, with a free airport shuttle, a rooftop pool and family rooms.
  • Boxtel @ Suvarnabhumi Airport. Small private rooms on the basement level by the rail link station for a few hours’ sleep. Guests use the airport’s toilets.

Near Don Mueang Airport

Don Mueang is about 25 km north of central Bangkok, and Terminal 1 handles international flights while Terminal 2 is domestic. A hotel here suits an early departure from DMK. For a ride into town, the Dark Red Line station sits opposite the airport, reached by a covered skybridge, with trains from 05:00 to midnight.

If you arrive late or fly out early

The rail link stops at about midnight, but taxis and Grab run 24 hours at Suvarnabhumi. A metered taxi charges the meter plus a 50 THB airport surcharge, and you pay the tolls; guides estimate 350 to 500 THB in total to Sukhumvit or Silom. A pre-booked car waits whatever the hour. So a late landing alone is no reason to sleep at the airport if you have days in Bangkok. For one night between flights, our guide to Bangkok airport hotels with a free shuttle compares the shuttle terms, capsules and day rooms.

An airport hotel pays off when the next flight is close. If your connection leaves from the other airport, sleep near the one you depart from. The free shuttle between the airports runs from 05:00 to midnight, every 30 minutes, for passengers with an onward ticket and a passport, and it can take 1 to 2 hours in traffic. Our Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang guide compares it with a private car.

The transfer to your hotel

The My Bangkok Holiday private transfer from Suvarnabhumi has 4,833 reviews at 4.77, the most of the transfers we compare. The arrival option was $31.96 per car for up to two travelers on 12 October 2026, with the expressway fee, fuel and a bottle of water included. Read our review of the transfer for the full listing. Landing at Don Mueang, the same operator’s Don Mueang hotel transfer was also $31.96 per car for up to two.

Practical booking checklist

  • Pickup location: Gate 4 in the Suvarnabhumi arrivals hall, where your name is shown with the GetYourGuide logo.
  • Flight details: send your flight number, hotel name and address at least 24 hours before you land.
  • Tolls: the expressway fee is included.
  • Luggage: the sedan takes one or two passengers with up to two suitcases and two carry-ons; book a van for more.
  • Airport hotels: a drop-off at an airport-area hotel may cost an extra THB 500.
  • Child seats: a baby seat is an add-on, not included.
  • Cancellation: free up to 24 hours in advance.

Practical tips

  • Book the transfer first, then the room, so the hotel name is ready to send to the operator.
  • Choose a hotel within a short walk of the station if you plan to take the train with luggage.
  • Buy a new ticket at each change; the rail link, BTS and MRT do not share tickets.
  • For a Don Mueang departure, Airports of Thailand advises arriving at least 2 hours before your flight.
  • Compare the private transfers from both airports if you need a van or a child seat.

Quick recommendations

  • If you have several nights in Bangkok → stay near Phaya Thai, Ratchaprarop or Makkasan and book the Suvarnabhumi hotel transfer or take the train.
  • If you land after midnight and fly out the next day → book the Hyatt Regency or Boxtel at Suvarnabhumi.
  • If your flight leaves Don Mueang early → stay at the Amari, linked to the airport by a walkway.
  • If you change airports overnight → sleep near the airport you leave from, and read the Don Mueang airport transfers guide.

What we checked

We opened every hotel listed here on Booking.com on 12 October 2026 and took each note from the property’s own listing; we did not compare room prices, which change daily. The transfer is the most reviewed of the private cars we compare on GetYourGuide and Viator, priced on a real date for two adults on 12 October 2026. Rail, taxi and shuttle details come from Airports of Thailand and the sources in our fact ledger, and inclusions vary by listing.
