BKK Transport Guide

Every Way Out of Suvarnabhumi Airport

Where each ride leaves the terminal, what it costs and which route guide to read next.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is about 31 km east of Bangkok, and every ride out leaves from its single terminal. The cheapest is the Airport Rail Link at 15 to 45 THB, running 05:30 to midnight. A metered taxi costs the meter plus a 50 THB surcharge and tolls. A pre-booked private car was $31.96 per car for up to two travelers, tolls included, when we checked on 12 October 2026.

Where each ride leaves the terminal

One passenger terminal handles international and domestic flights, so this map works for every arrival.

  • Level 2, the arrivals hall. Pre-booked drivers meet you here with a name sign. My Bangkok Holiday uses Gate 4, and other operators name Gate 3 or Exit 3 in their confirmations. The AOT Limousine counters, car rental desks around Gate 7 and the free shuttle to Don Mueang (Gate 3, inner curb) are on this level too.
  • Level 1, the ground floor. The public taxi queue is between Gates 4 and 7 on the inner curb. Grab picks up at Gate 4 on the outer curb. The S1 bus to Khao San Road leaves from Gate 7, and the Pattaya and Hua Hin coach desk is near Gate 8.
  • Level B1. The Airport Rail Link station, with ATMs and currency exchange nearby.
  • The Public Transportation Center. City buses 554, 555 (S6) and 558, and public vans including route 552B to BTS On Nut and route 555 to Don Mueang.

A pre-booked private car

The car we lead with is Bangkok Airport: Private Hotel Transfer Free Tollway from My Bangkok Holiday, rated 4.77 from 4,833 reviews, the most-reviewed transfer we compare. On 12 October 2026 the arrival option was $31.96 for the car. The sedan suits one or two passengers with up to two suitcases and two carry-on bags; with more luggage, the listing says to book a van. The price covers the expressway fee, gas, insurance, bottled water and a non-stop drive. Our review of the tolls-included transfer covers the listing in full.

Two alternatives: Manna Limousine runs an eco car at $40.14 per car up to a Mercedes S-Class at $178.40, with expressway and car park fees included (see our Manna Limousine review). For a large group, Blue Jade’s Viator listing prices one van for up to nine at THB 1,810, about $55. The private transfers comparison puts every option side by side.

Practical booking checklist

  • Pickup location: Gate 4 in the arrivals hall, where your name is shown with the GetYourGuide logo.
  • Waiting time: an included period applies, and waiting beyond it is charged. Send your flight number so the operator can plan around delays.
  • Tolls: the expressway fee is included on this listing. On a metered taxi you pay tolls yourself.
  • Luggage: the sedan takes two suitcases and two carry-ons. Declare oversized bags before the trip.
  • Child seats: a baby seat is a paid add-on, not part of the base price.
  • Cancellation: free up to 24 hours in advance. Hotels near the airport, or a ride to Don Mueang, may cost an extra THB 500.

Taxi, Grab and the walk-up counters

Metered taxis run around the clock. Take a queue ticket from the machines on Level 1 and wait for your number. The meter starts at 35 or 40 THB depending on the taxi, the driver adds a 50 THB airport surcharge, and you pay expressway tolls at each booth. Beyond about 20 km the fare can be agreed with the driver. Electric VIP taxis wait on the middle curb from 150 THB plus the meter.

The airport lists Grab as a licensed ride-hailing service. Order from inside, then meet the car at Level 1, Gate 4, outer curb, or the point shown in the app. The taxi vs Grab guide compares fare basis and payment.

The AOT Limousine counters on Level 2 sell private cars on the spot, 24 hours a day. Starting rates run from 550 THB for an eco sedan seating three to 850 THB for a Toyota Commuter van seating eight.

Rail, buses and coaches

The Airport Rail Link City Line stops at all eight stations between the airport and Phaya Thai, where you change to the BTS Skytrain; the full Airport Rail Link guide lists fares and first and last trains. It is the cheapest ride into town in daytime, and the Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok guide explains the connections by neighborhood.

The S1 bus runs to Sanam Luang, near Khao San Road, from 06:00 to 20:00. For the coast, Roong Reuang coaches leave the desk near Gate 8 for Pattaya Bus Terminal, about 2 hours for 135 THB per seat, and for Hua Hin, about 4 hours for 361 THB. Suvarnabhumi Burapha runs coaches toward Koh Chang from the same area.

Routes onward from Suvarnabhumi

Getting to Suvarnabhumi for your flight

Going back, the same options run in reverse. The Airport Rail Link runs from Phaya Thai between about 05:30 and midnight, so very early flights usually need a car. A taxi from your hotel runs on the meter, and you pay any tolls. The My Bangkok Holiday departure option was also $31.96 per car on 12 October 2026, with the driver meeting you in your hotel lobby, and a round trip was $63.94. On a connection from Don Mueang, Time Out reports the free shuttle takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Practical tips

  • Check the airport code on your ticket. BKK is Suvarnabhumi, DMK is Don Mueang, and they are on opposite sides of the city.
  • Carry small baht notes for the taxi surcharge and toll booths.
  • If your driver is not at the meeting point, call the number in your confirmation. Do not accept help from someone who says your driver is unavailable.
  • The last train leaves around midnight, so a late landing means a taxi, Grab or a pre-booked car.

Quick recommendations

  • If you land late, travel with children or want a fixed price → book the My Bangkok Holiday private car.
  • If you are a group of five or more → price a van per vehicle on the private transfers page.
  • If you travel light in daytime and stay near a BTS station → take the Airport Rail Link.
  • If you are going straight to the beach → read Bangkok Airport to Pattaya before you choose between coach and car.
  • If you are connecting to a Don Mueang flight → use the free shuttle and leave plenty of time.

What we checked

We compared the Suvarnabhumi transfers on GetYourGuide and Viator by review volume, rating and how clearly each listing states its price basis, then checked real-date prices for two adults on 12 October 2026. Taxi, rail, bus and coach details come from the Airports of Thailand transport pages and the operators’ own sites. Inclusions such as tolls, waiting time and child seats vary by listing, so read each one before you book.
