Getting from Pattaya to Hua Hin
Private car, the direct coach, two coaches via Suvarnabhumi, flights, the ferry question and how to fit both resorts around a Bangkok flight.
The quickest way from Pattaya to Hua Hin is a private car, about 4 to 5 hours hotel to hotel on roughly 310 to 330 km of road around the top of the Gulf. The cheapest is the one Roong Reuang coach a day, at 15:30 from North Pattaya, about 5 hours 20 minutes for around 500 to 590 THB. There is no ferry: the Pattaya–Hua Hin catamaran stopped in 2020 and has not restarted. Small-plane flights between U-Tapao and Hua Hin began in late October 2026.

Distance, route and driving time
Pattaya and Hua Hin face each other across the Gulf of Thailand, but by road you drive around the top of it. The usual route never enters central Bangkok. Drivers take Motorway 7 from Pattaya towards Bangkok, join the Outer Ring Road (Kanchanaphisek, Motorway 9) and follow it south and west to Rama II Road, then continue via Samut Songkhram to Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) past Phetchaburi and Cha-am into Hua Hin.
What changed in 2026: Thai PBS World reported that the 25 km elevated M82 motorway between Bang Khun Thian and Ban Phaeo opened for toll-free, 24-hour trial use on 28 August 2026, running above the stretch of Rama II Road known for years of construction jams. Nation Thailand reported toll collection is planned for later years. Beyond Ban Phaeo the traffic rejoins Rama II and Phetkasem, so weekend slowdowns are still there.
Realistic timings:
- Weekday mid-morning departure: about 4 to 4.5 hours.
- Friday afternoon heading south or a Sunday return: allow 5 to 6 hours. Hua Hin is a weekend escape for Bangkok residents.
- Long weekends and Songkran: build in extra time and leave early.
Tolls: Motorway 7, the Outer Ring Road and the toll plazas take cash or Easy Pass/M-Flow. Most private transfer prices include tolls and fuel; confirm this when you book. If you drive yourself, carry small notes.
Rest stops: drivers usually stop at a PTT or Bangchak service station on Rama II or Highway 35, or for coffee near Phetchaburi or Cha-am. Ask your driver for 15 to 20 minutes; it is a normal request.
Private car or taxi from Pattaya to Hua Hin
For most visitors this is the one to book. You go from one hotel lobby to the other, with no backtracking into Bangkok and no out-of-town bus station. When people search for a “Pattaya to Hua Hin taxi” they almost always mean this kind of pre-booked fixed-price car; a metered taxi is not realistic for a 300 km trip, and ride-hailing apps are a poor fit.
The Pattaya to Hua Hin hotel transfer on GetYourGuide is the only listing we found that drives this route directly. It was $142 for up to three people when we checked on 12 October 2026, runs non-stop in an air-conditioned car, and cancels free up to 24 hours before. The driver meets you at your hotel with a name sign; for a condo or villa, the driver parks nearby and calls you. It is rated 5.0 from only 3 reviews, too few to judge the operator on, so read the confirmation for the vehicle size and send your luggage count. We also searched Viator: its two Pattaya–Hua Hin listings had no reviews at all.
Price by vehicle (market ranges, not quotes)
These ranges come from the published 2026 rate cards of several Pattaya and Hua Hin transfer operators. Take them as a guide to what a fair price looks like, and get a fixed price when you book.
| Vehicle | Seats and bags (typical) | Market range, one way | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Altis or Camry class) | 1 to 3 passengers, 2 to 3 cases | 2,500 to 4,550 THB | The lowest published fares sit around 2,500 to 2,900 THB; many established operators charge 3,700 to 4,150 THB |
| SUV or MPV (Fortuner, Innova) | 3 to 4 passengers, 3 to 4 cases | 3,100 to 4,000 THB | Better for golf bags and bulky luggage |
| Minivan (Toyota Commuter) | 5 to 9 passengers, 6 or more cases | 4,500 to 6,250 THB | Usually the cheapest per head for families and groups |
| VIP or luxury van | 6 to 9 passengers | 5,400 THB and up | Captain seats; higher-end operators |
What is usually included: pickup at your hotel, tolls, fuel, a driver with some English, and a short rest stop. Some operators include child seats on request and others charge for them, so ask. Extra stops, late-night pickups and drop-offs beyond Hua Hin (Pranburi, Pak Nam Pran) normally cost more.
Turning the drive into a day out
The road passes some of central Thailand’s best-known day-trip sights, and many operators will add stops for extra time:
- Maeklong Railway Market (Samut Songkhram), where vendors pull back their awnings as the train passes.
- Amphawa (afternoon and evening floating market, busiest at weekends) or Damnoen Saduak (morning floating market, a detour west).
- Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang), the hilltop palace in Phetchaburi.
- Cha-am beachfront for a late lunch before the last 25 km to Hua Hin.
One or two stops usually add 2 to 4 hours. Ask the operator before you book, because the train-market times are fixed. The GetYourGuide listing above is sold as non-stop, so ask before booking whether stops are possible.
Bus from Pattaya to Hua Hin
The direct RRC bus
Roong Reuang Coach (RRC), which also runs the Suvarnabhumi Airport coaches to Pattaya and Hua Hin, operates the only direct scheduled bus on this route.
| Direction | Departs | Arrives | Duration | Fare (late 2026) | Boarding and arrival |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pattaya → Hua Hin | 15:30 | About 20:50 | About 5 h 20 min | About 500 to 590 THB, depending on the seller | North Pattaya Bus Terminal → RRC Hua Hin station (next to Hua Hin Airport) |
| Hua Hin → Pattaya | 09:00 | About 14:00 | About 5 h | About 551 THB via Busaba (checked 12 Oct 2026) | RRC Hua Hin station → North Pattaya Bus Terminal |
Key points:
- Older guides list an 08:00 departure from Pattaya. Booking sites in late 2026 show only the 15:30 bus, which reaches Hua Hin after dark.
- The fare depends on where you buy: around 532 THB has been reported at the counter, about 551 to 566 THB through agents such as Busaba and Baolau, and up to 590 THB on 12Go. Resellers’ tickets are often non-refundable.
- Where to buy: the RRC counter at North Pattaya Bus Terminal, RRC’s own site (rrcticket.com), or resellers (Busaba/BusX, 12Go, Baolau, BusOnlineTicket). With one coach a day, book ahead from November to March.
- The Hua Hin station is out of town, beside Hua Hin Airport about 7 km north of the clock tower. Budget about 100 to 150 THB for a Grab or Bolt into the center, or flag a green songthaew for less.
Alternative: bus via Suvarnabhumi Airport (arrives earlier)
If 20:50 is too late, you can link two RRC airport coaches through Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Both desks are on Level 1, near Gate 8.
| Leg | Typical departures | Time | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jomtien bus station → Suvarnabhumi Airport | Hourly through the day | About 2 hours | 158 THB |
| Suvarnabhumi Airport → Hua Hin (RRC station) | Roughly hourly, 06:30 to 18:30 | About 4 hours | About 361 THB |
Sample connection: Jomtien 07:00 → BKK about 09:00 → 10:30 coach → Hua Hin about 14:30. That is around 7.5 hours with a buffer, and you arrive in daylight. Leave at least 60 to 90 minutes for the change, because Motorway 7 traffic is hard to predict. The reverse works too: Hua Hin to BKK on RRC, then BKK to Pattaya, with coaches until late evening. From North Pattaya the airport coach runs seven times a day for 135 THB. Our Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya bus guide covers the Pattaya leg in detail, and Bangkok Airport to Hua Hin covers the Hua Hin coach.
Going through central Bangkok (Pattaya to Ekkamai or Mo Chit, then the Southern Bus Terminal to Hua Hin) is possible. It means cross-city taxis between terminals and is slower, and harder with luggage, than the airport route.
Is there a ferry from Pattaya to Hua Hin in 2026?
No. Royal Passenger Liner launched a high-speed catamaran in 2017 between Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya and Khao Takiab Pier south of Hua Hin, about 2 hours across the Gulf. It ran with seasonal monsoon suspensions, stopped in March 2020 during COVID-19 and never came back. Direct Ferries now lists the Royal Passenger Liner as no longer available, and we found no news of a relaunch.
Some ticket sites still show old ferry timetables, so do not book one. The alternatives are a private car (fastest door to door), the RRC bus, or the new flight below.
Can you fly from Pattaya to Hua Hin?
Yes, in a very small plane, from late October 2026. EZY Airlines flew an inaugural Hua Hin to U-Tapao (Rayong-Pattaya) flight on 30 September 2026; Thaiger timed it at about 40 minutes. Pattaya Mail gives the Cessna Caravan C208B 10 to 12 passenger seats. Scheduled flights started in late October, with promotional fares from 2,900 THB at launch.
Before you book:
- Reports differ on the details. Hua Hin Today and Thaiger gave 23 October and Friday to Monday flights; NomadLawyer, citing an airport timetable, gave six days a week except Tuesdays from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027. Check the operating days with EZY Airlines.
- A 10-seat turboprop has a tight baggage allowance, and new regional routes change schedules often. Confirm both.
- U-Tapao is about 40 km south of central Pattaya, so add a 45 to 60 minute ride at the Pattaya end. Flying via Bangkok is not practical, because Hua Hin has very little scheduled service to Bangkok.
For a family with suitcases, a private car is still simpler and usually cheaper for the group.
Train: technically possible, not recommended
There is no direct line. Pattaya’s daily third-class train No. 284 leaves at 14:21 and reaches Bangkok’s old Hua Lamphong station at 18:15 (31 THB). Southern Line trains to Hua Hin mostly leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, so you face a cross-town transfer and, in practice, a night in Bangkok. Take it only if the train ride itself is the point.
Combining Pattaya and Hua Hin with Bangkok airport arrivals and departures
Pattaya and Hua Hin fit an open-jaw loop by road: fly into Bangkok, stay at each beach, and fly out without retracing your steps.
Sample open-jaw itinerary
| Day | Leg | Drive time (private car) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Suvarnabhumi (BKK) → Pattaya or Jomtien | About 1.5 hours | See Bangkok Airport to Pattaya |
| Days 2 to 4 | Pattaya | — | Koh Larn, Sanctuary of Truth, Jomtien |
| Day 5 | Pattaya → Hua Hin | 4 to 5 hours (plus 2 to 4 with sightseeing stops) | Leave mid-morning to miss the evening Rama II traffic |
| Days 6 to 8 | Hua Hin | — | Cicada Market, Khao Takiab, Pranburi |
| Day 9 | Hua Hin → BKK or Don Mueang (DMK) | 3 to 4 hours | See Bangkok Airport to Hua Hin |
No single listing sells all three legs as one package, so book them separately. The Pattaya to Bangkok, BKK or DMK private car covers the Pattaya end in reverse (4.53/5 from 329 reviews), the Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya private transfer handles day 1 (4.54/5 from 90 reviews), and the Hua Hin to Suvarnabhumi private transfer takes you back to the airport (4.47/5 from 26 reviews). For Don Mueang, the same operator sells a Hua Hin to Don Mueang private transfer, so far with only 6 reviews.
Planning your last day: for an international flight from Suvarnabhumi, leave Hua Hin about 7 hours before departure. That covers 3 to 4 hours of driving, a traffic buffer and the recommended 3 hours at the airport. For a domestic or regional flight from Don Mueang, about 5.5 to 6 hours is usually enough. Add an hour on Sunday afternoons and holiday weekends. Our Suvarnabhumi Airport guide and Don Mueang Airport guide cover check-in and the terminals.
The reverse loop (BKK → Hua Hin → Pattaya → BKK) works just as well. Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi is about 1.5 hours, the easier last leg for an early flight. If you stay in Bangkok before heading south, the Bangkok hotel to Hua Hin private transfer (4.69/5 from 135 reviews) runs hotel to hotel. Traveling with children or a group? See family and group transfers.
Getting around Hua Hin: local taxis, Grab and songthaews
If you searched “Hua Hin taxi”, you probably need a short local ride, not an intercity car. Hua Hin has no metered taxi fleet like Bangkok’s (our Bangkok Airport taxi guide covers those). Instead:
- Green songthaews (shared pickup trucks) run along Phetkasem Road between the north of town and Khao Takiab for about 10 to 20 THB a ride, cash only.
- Grab and Bolt both work in Hua Hin. Short trips in town usually cost about 60 to 150 THB, and the ride from the RRC bus station by the airport to the center about 100 to 150 THB.
- Tuk-tuks and motorbike taxis: agree the fare before you get in.
- Local drivers hire out by the half or full day for golf, Sam Roi Yot or Kaeng Krachan.
Practical tips
- Book ahead in high season (November to March, Christmas and New Year, Chinese New Year, Songkran). Good drivers and the single daily bus both sell out.
- Luggage: tell the operator how many large cases, golf bags and strollers you have. Three people with three big cases often need an SUV, not a sedan.
- Car sickness: the road is mostly flat motorway, but a back-row van seat can feel bumpy. Sit forward and take medication beforehand if you need it.
- Carry some cash for tolls if you drive, snacks and tips. 100 to 300 THB is a common tip for a long transfer, but it is optional.
- Avoid Friday 15:00 to 20:00 heading south and Sunday afternoons heading north where you can.
- Rainy season (roughly May to October) brings heavy afternoon downpours that slow the Rama II and Phetkasem stretch.
Which option should I choose?
| Traveler | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Family with kids | Private SUV or van | Door to door, child seats, stops when you want them |
| Group of 5 to 9 | Private minivan | Cheapest per person, one vehicle for all the bags |
| Couple, mid-budget | Private sedan | 4 to 5 hours hotel to hotel; costs little more than two bus tickets plus taxis |
| Solo backpacker | RRC direct bus, or two coaches via BKK to arrive earlier | Lowest cost |
| Traveling light near U-Tapao or Jomtien | EZY Airlines flight, once you have checked the days | 40-minute hop if the days and baggage rules suit |
| Flying in and out of Bangkok on the same trip | Three private cars booked separately | Each leg timed around your flights |
| Wanting a sightseeing day | Private car with stops | Maeklong, Amphawa and Phetchaburi on the way |
Final word
Getting from Pattaya to Hua Hin in late 2026 still means the road for most people. The ferry is gone, the new flights use a 10-seat plane, and the single daily bus arrives after dark. A private car is the safest choice, especially when the trip links to a Bangkok flight: check the Pattaya to Hua Hin car for your date, because high-season cars and the one bus sell out first.
What we checked
We searched GetYourGuide and Viator for a Pattaya to Hua Hin private transfer on 12 October and 1 November 2026 and compared ratings, review counts and price basis; the airport legs come from the same offers data. Coach times and fares come from Roong Reuang’s resellers (Busaba, 12Go, Baolau), the ferry status from Direct Ferries, the flights from Thaiger, Pattaya Mail, Hua Hin Today and NomadLawyer, and the motorway from Thai PBS World and Nation Thailand. Prices and timetables change, so confirm before you travel.

Check Availability & BookPattaya to Hua Hin: Travel FAQ
Private car, coach, flights and the ferry question for the trip around the Gulf of Thailand.
About 310 to 330 km by road, because you drive around the top of the Gulf on Bangkok's outer ring road. In a straight line across the water it is only about 110 km.
Usually 4 to 4.5 hours in normal traffic, and 5 to 6 hours on Friday evenings, Sundays and holidays. The drive never needs to enter central Bangkok.
No. The Royal Passenger Liner catamaran stopped in 2020 and has not come back. Direct Ferries now lists the Royal Passenger Liner as no longer available, so go by road or plane.
Yes, one a day. Roong Reuang Coach leaves North Pattaya Bus Terminal at 15:30 and reaches its Hua Hin station, next to Hua Hin Airport, at about 20:50. Sellers listed about 500 to 590 THB in late 2026. The return leaves Hua Hin at 09:00.
For most travelers, a pre-booked private car: it is the fastest door to door, with no bus terminal at either end. On a tight budget, take the 15:30 Roong Reuang bus, or two airport coaches through Suvarnabhumi to arrive in daylight.
The hotel-to-hotel transfer we list on GetYourGuide was $142 for up to three people when we checked on 12 October 2026. Local operators' rate cards run from about 2,500 to 4,550 THB for a sedan and 4,500 to 6,250 THB for a van.
EZY Airlines began small-plane flights between U-Tapao and Hua Hin in late October 2026 with a 10 to 12 seat Cessna Caravan. Reports differ on the start date and operating days, so check with the airline before you plan around it.
Book the same private car in reverse (about 4 to 5 hours), take the 09:00 Roong Reuang bus from its Hua Hin station (about 5 hours), or ride two airport coaches through Suvarnabhumi.
Yes, if you want a contrast. Pattaya has nightlife, islands and big attractions; Hua Hin is calmer, with golf, night markets and a royal-resort history. Stay at least three nights in each so the 4 to 5 hour transfer pays off.
