Heading into the city? The Don Mueang to Bangkok city guide goes deeper on buses, trains and fares by neighborhood.

Check your terminal first

Terminal 1 handles international flights and Terminal 2 domestic ones; a third terminal is years from opening. Some low-cost airlines use both, depending on the flight, so read the terminal on your e-ticket. It decides where your driver waits and where the taxis and buses stop. If your ticket says BKK, you land at Suvarnabhumi across the city; use the Suvarnabhumi airport transfers guide instead.

Private transfers from Don Mueang

The Don Mueang Airport Private Hotel Transfer with Free Tollway by My Bangkok Holiday is the one we feature. Rated 4.77 from 472 reviews, the most of the Don Mueang private transfers we compare, it is priced per vehicle: $31.96 one way or $59.48 round trip for the sedan when we checked on 12 October 2026. Gas, the expressway fee, insurance, bottled water and up to 90 minutes of waiting after landing are included. The representative meets international arrivals by Gate 5 and domestic arrivals by Gate 11. Our full review lists every inclusion.

The Bangkok DMK Airport Private Transfer by Dida Global prices per person, $13.50 each for two when we checked. The vehicle is matched to your group, up to a 12-seat minibus for seven to nine people, with 90 minutes of free waiting, or 120 if your flight is late. It drops off in the city center only, and the expressway fee is not on its inclusions list (our review).

For up to eight, the Private Arrival Transfer from BKK or DMK on Viator costs THB 1,000 to 1,600 per vehicle, about $31 to $50, for arrivals only. The private transfers comparison covers both airports.

Practical booking checklist

  • Pickup location: Gate 5 (international) or Gate 11 (domestic); your confirmation has the final spot.
  • Waiting time: 90 minutes on both GetYourGuide listings. Dida Global then charges 10 USD an hour unless your flight is late.
  • Tolls: included by My Bangkok Holiday. Ask Dida Global and the Viator operator.
  • Luggage: My Bangkok Holiday allows one suitcase and one carry-on each, and the sedan takes 2 suitcases. Book a van for more.
  • Child seats: none of the three includes one. My Bangkok Holiday sells a baby seat add-on; the Viator listing charges THB 500.
  • Cancellation: free up to 24 hours before on both GetYourGuide listings.

Taxi and Grab pickup points since March 2026

From 1 March 2026 the airport set named pickup points for taxis and Grab Car. According to a Thai news report, taxi Point 1 is at Terminal 1, Level 1, Gate 8, and Point 2 on Level 1 of the parking garage next to Terminal 2, with a CABB and electric taxi counter at Terminal 1, Gate 7. The official DMK transport pages did not load when we checked, so follow the signs.

Guides say the fare is the meter plus a 50 baht airport surcharge, with tolls paid by you, roughly 350 to 500 baht in total to central Bangkok. Plan to pay in cash. Drivers may not refuse a trip; report refusals to the Department of Land Transport on 1584 or the Tourist Police on 1155.

Airports of Thailand lists the Grab service point at Terminal 2, Level 1, Gate 14. Other guides give different gates, so walk to the point the app shows. The taxi vs Grab guide compares the two.

Buses, trains, coaches and the shuttle

The A1 to A4 airport buses pick up at Terminal 1, Gate 6 and Terminal 2, Gate 12, both on the 1st floor. A covered skybridge from Level 2 of Terminal 2 leads to the Dark Red Line station across the road. Timetables and which option suits your hotel are on the Don Mueang to Bangkok city page.

Government coaches run to Pattaya in about 2.5 hours, 167 baht per a 2026 report, from the Service Hall Building north of Terminal 1, and a daily coach to Hua Hin was reported at 15:00. Compare them with private cars, such as the Golden Dragon Pattaya transfer at $53.22 per sedan from DMK, on Bangkok airport to Pattaya and Bangkok airport to Hua Hin.

Flying on from Suvarnabhumi? A free shuttle leaves Terminal 1, 1st floor, Gate 3, and Terminal 2, 1st floor, Gate 14, every 30 minutes from 05:00 to midnight for passengers with an onward ticket and passport or ID. See Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang.

Getting to Don Mueang Airport

There is no BTS Skytrain station at the airport. From the city:

  • Train: MRT Blue Line to Bang Sue, then the Dark Red Line from Krung Thep Aphiwat, about 15 to 17 minutes. Trains run 05:00 to midnight.
  • Bus: the A1 from BTS Mo Chit, A2 from Victory Monument, A3 from Pratunam and A4 from Khao San Road, 30 to 50 baht.
  • Taxi or Grab: a meter fare in the same range as the trip in, plus tolls. Leave extra time at rush hour.
  • Private car: My Bangkok Holiday’s departure option was $31.96 per car, with pickup in your hotel lobby; Dida Global’s was $13.50 per person for two.

Airports of Thailand advises arriving at least 2 hours before departure.

Practical tips

  • Carry small baht notes for the bus, the taxi and tolls.
  • Send your flight number with any private booking. My Bangkok Holiday needs it 24 hours ahead.
  • The last A buses leave between 22:00 and 23:59, so late arrivals need a taxi, Grab or a booked car.
  • Ignore anyone in the hall who says your driver is unavailable. Call the number in your confirmation.

Quick recommendations

  • If you land late or travel with children → book the My Bangkok Holiday private transfer.
  • If you are a group of seven to nine → price the Dida Global minibus option or the Viator per-vehicle transfer.
  • If you are heading to Khao San Road on a budget → take the A4 bus.
  • If you have a connecting flight from Suvarnabhumi → use the free inter-airport shuttle.
  • If you are going straight to Pattaya → compare the coach and a private car on the Pattaya page.

What we checked

Prices come from a check on 12 October 2026 for two adults, and inclusions such as tolls, waiting time and child seats vary by listing. Bus details come from Airports of Thailand; taxi, Grab, train and coach details come from dated reports and guides.
