Getting from Don Mueang into Central Bangkok
Airport buses, the Dark Red Line, taxis, Grab and private cars, and which one suits your part of the city.
Don Mueang Airport (DMK, also spelled Don Muang) is about 25 km north of central Bangkok. The cheapest rides in are the A1 to A4 airport buses at 30 to 50 baht and the Dark Red Line at roughly 20 to 40 baht. Guides estimate a metered taxi at 350 to 500 baht all in, and a private car for up to eight cost THB 1,000, about $31, when we checked on 12 October 2026.

Private car straight to your hotel
The Private Arrival Transfer from BKK or DMK to Bangkok Hotel by My Bangkok Holiday is the one we feature for groups. The price covers the whole vehicle for up to eight passengers, and three options were listed at THB 1,000, THB 1,100 and THB 1,600, about $31, $34 and $50, when we checked on 12 October 2026. The listing does not say what separates them, so check which vehicle each option covers before you pay. The fleet runs from an executive car to a van, a driver or representative meets you with a name sign, and it is rated 4.43 from 185 reviews. Read our review of this arrival transfer for the full terms.
For one or two travelers, two GetYourGuide listings compete closely. The Don Mueang Airport Private Hotel Transfer with Free Tollway cost $31.96 per car for up to two, with the expressway fee and up to 90 minutes of waiting after landing included (our review). The Bangkok DMK Airport Private Transfer by Dida Global was $13.50 per person for two, so $27 for the pair, though tolls are not on its inclusions list (our review). The private transfers comparison sets these against the Suvarnabhumi listings.
Practical booking checklist
- Pickup location: stated in your confirmation. The GetYourGuide listings use Gate 5 for international and Gate 11 for domestic arrivals.
- Waiting time: the Viator listing does not state one, so ask. The two GetYourGuide listings allow 90 minutes after landing.
- Tolls: included on the $31.96 GetYourGuide car. Ask the Viator operator and Dida Global.
- Luggage: the Viator listing allows 3 pieces in a sedan and 4 in an SUV, and bigger loads may need a larger vehicle at extra cost.
- Child seats: THB 500 per seat on request with the Viator listing. Infants otherwise ride on an adult’s lap.
- Extra passengers: anyone beyond the number you booked costs THB 500, paid to the driver.
- Cancellation: free under Viator’s standard policy. The listing is for arrivals only, so book your return separately.
Taxi and Grab into the city
Under rules in force since 1 March 2026, a Thai news report puts the taxi points at Terminal 1, Level 1, Gate 8 and on Level 1 of the parking garage next to Terminal 2. Guides say you pay the meter plus a 50 baht airport surcharge and any expressway tolls, which they put at 350 to 500 baht in total to central Bangkok, usually in cash. Allow about 30 to 60 minutes, longer at rush hour.
Grab shows its price before you confirm, so there is no meter to watch. Walk to the pickup point shown in the app, which Airports of Thailand lists at Terminal 2, Level 1, Gate 14. Licensing rules for app drivers were tightened in 2026, so check what the app offers when you land. The taxi vs Grab guide compares fares and payment.
Airport buses A1 to A4
The airport buses stop at Terminal 1, 1st floor, Gate 6 and Terminal 2, 1st floor, Gate 12. Have cash ready to pay on board. Airports of Thailand lists these routes:
| Bus | Goes to | Hours (from the airport) | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | BTS Chatuchak, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal | 05:45 to 24:00, every 15 min | 30 THB |
| A2 | BTS Chatuchak, Victory Monument | 06:00 to 23:00, every 15 min | 30 THB |
| A3 | Pratunam, Ratchaprasong, Lumpini Park | 06:00 to 23:00, every 30 min | 50 THB |
| A4 | Democracy Monument, Khao San Road, Sanam Luang | 06:00 to 23:00, every 30 min | 50 THB |
You ride with your bags beside you, so the buses suit travelers with a backpack or one suitcase.
The Dark Red Line train
Don Mueang station on the SRT Dark Red Line sits across Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. A covered skybridge leads to it from Level 2 of Terminal 2, and from Terminal 1 you walk through the terminal corridor, about 8 to 10 minutes. Trains take about 15 to 17 minutes to Krung Thep Aphiwat (Bang Sue Grand) and run from 05:00 to midnight, every 10 minutes at rush hour and every 15 off-peak.
Fares are distance-based. Sources disagree on the exact fare from Don Mueang, so expect roughly 20 to 40 baht and check the amount at the gate. A 40 baht daily cap applies when you pay by contactless card until 30 November 2026, unless extended. At Bang Sue, change to the MRT Blue Line for the city. For the BTS Skytrain, ride the MRT to Chatuchak Park and walk to BTS Mo Chit.
Which option for your part of Bangkok
- Khao San Road and the old town: the A4 bus drops at Khao San Road and Sanam Luang for 50 baht. After 23:00, take a taxi or Grab.
- Pratunam and Ratchaprasong: the A3 runs there for 50 baht, ending at Lumpini Park.
- Sukhumvit: take the A1 or A2 to the BTS at Mo Chit or Victory Monument and continue on the Skytrain, or ride the Red Line and MRT. With bags, a taxi, Grab or private car saves two changes.
- Silom, Sathorn and riverside hotels: no airport bus goes direct. The Red Line plus the MRT Blue Line works with light luggage; otherwise book a car.
- Groups of five or more: one per-vehicle booking such as the Viator transfer keeps everyone and the bags in a single van.
If your ticket actually says BKK, you land at Suvarnabhumi on the other side of the city; see Suvarnabhumi airport to Bangkok. Every other way out of Don Mueang, including coaches and getting back to the airport, is in the Don Mueang airport transfers guide.
Practical tips
- Check your terminal: Terminal 1 for international flights, Terminal 2 for domestic. Bus stops and meeting gates differ.
- Keep small baht notes for the bus, the taxi and tolls.
- The last airport bus leaves by 23:59 and the last train around midnight, so late arrivals need a taxi, Grab or a booked car.
- Send flight details to any private operator 24 hours ahead. The Viator listing gives no refund without them.
- A taxi driver may not refuse your trip. Report refusals to the Department of Land Transport on 1584 or the Tourist Police on 1155.
Quick recommendations
- If you are a group of five to eight → book the per-vehicle arrival transfer.
- If you are two and want tolls in the price → book the $31.96 private car.
- If you are staying near Khao San Road → take the A4 bus.
- If you travel light and your hotel is near the MRT → ride the Dark Red Line.
- If you land after midnight → take a taxi or Grab, or pre-book a car.
What we checked
We compared the private transfers from Don Mueang on GetYourGuide and Viator, choosing by review count, rating and how clearly each one states its price basis. Prices come from a check on 12 October 2026 for two adults, and inclusions such as tolls, waiting time and child seats vary by listing. Bus details come from Airports of Thailand; train, taxi and Grab details come from dated reports and guides because the airport’s own transport pages did not load.

"Great friendly service. The pick up was easy and stress free. Highly recommend this service. It is also cheap compared to taxis and on time."
"Seamless pickup and drop off. Our flight was scheduled to land at 11pm and we weren’t out to the pickup spot until 12:20am, but the greeter and driver were very patient. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience to our hotel after 20+ hours of flying and arriving so late. Great job!"
"Fantastic driver. I think they had the whole thing set up perfectly… the email wasn’t correct on the meeting spot. But, texting fixed that."
"We flew from Phuket to Bangkok. We ended up getting an earlier flight from Phuket & literally we had to run to get the flight. I sent a quick message to say we would be getting into Bangkok airport earlier. They responded back immediately"
"Absolutely flawless transaction from booking to pickup. Was contacted before trip, and all through pick up. They were on time waiting for us in the airport and van was outside ready to go! Excellent driver as well. Highly recommend if coming to Bangkok."
"The pick up at the airport was very quick and efficient. Very well organized and easy to find. It was so nice to have it arranged ahead of time and not have to worry about finding transportation after we arrived."
"The operator arrived very promptly (even well before our scheduled pickup time), and sent me several messages with details and photos of where we would meet at the airport. The coordinator at the airport also sent a photo of my sister a"

Quick answers about getting from Don Mueang Airport (DMK) into central Bangkok.
Take an A1 to A4 airport bus (30 to 50 baht), the Dark Red Line train to Krung Thep Aphiwat, a metered taxi, Grab or a pre-booked private car. A private vehicle for up to eight cost THB 1,000, about $31, when we checked on 12 October 2026.
About 25 km to central Bangkok. By road it takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic, and the Dark Red Line reaches Krung Thep Aphiwat in about 15 to 17 minutes.
There is no official fare table. Guides put it at about 350 to 500 baht in total: the meter, a 50 baht airport surcharge and expressway tolls, usually paid in cash. See the taxi vs Grab guide.
The A4 airport bus runs to Democracy Monument, Khao San Road and Sanam Luang for 50 baht, from 06:00 to 23:00, about every 30 minutes. It picks up at Terminal 1, Gate 6 and Terminal 2, Gate 12. After the last bus, take a taxi, Grab or a booked car.
Walk the covered skybridge from Terminal 2, Level 2 to Don Mueang station on the SRT Dark Red Line and ride about 15 to 17 minutes to Krung Thep Aphiwat, then change to the MRT Blue Line at Bang Sue. Expect roughly 20 to 40 baht and check the fare at the gate.
No. The A1 and A2 buses run to BTS Chatuchak and Mo Chit, and the A2 continues to Victory Monument, where you can join the Skytrain. From the Red Line you can also take the MRT to Chatuchak Park and walk to BTS Mo Chit.
It suits late arrivals, families and groups with luggage, because the driver waits with a name sign and the price is fixed. Per-vehicle listings help larger groups most. See the private transfers comparison and the Don Mueang transfer guide.
