"I used this service for pickup from BKK to my hotel past midnight — such a smooth process! They are prompt, accommodating, professional, and efficient. They had clear instructions & communication, so it was easy to find them at the pick up location. You can tell that they have good communication with each other as staff. And I felt safe throughout the drive. Will definitely book with them again."

From Baggage Claim to the Back Seat
How each of the three options works once you walk out of arrivals.
Decide before you land
Late arrival, children or three people with bags? Pre-book a car with a fixed price. Otherwise choose between the taxi queue and the Grab app once you land.
Taxi: take a queue ticket
At Suvarnabhumi, go to Level 1 between Gates 4 and 7, take a ticket from the machines and wait for your taxi on the inner curb.
Grab: request and walk out
Request the ride in the app, check the price, then walk to the pickup point the app shows. At Suvarnabhumi that is Level 1, Gate 4, outer curb.
Pre-booked: meet at Gate 4
With Jub BKK Taxi, a representative holding your name waits near Gate 4 on the arrivals floor and takes you to your driver.

Taxi vs Grab
Taxi or Grab From Bangkok's Airports
Where each one picks up at BKK and DMK, how the fare is worked out and when a pre-booked car makes more sense.
At both Bangkok airports a metered taxi costs the meter plus a 50 THB airport surcharge, and you pay the expressway tolls. Grab shows its price in the app before you confirm and picks up at a set point, at Suvarnabhumi on Level 1 by Gate 4. Guides estimate a taxi to central Bangkok at roughly 350 to 500 THB all in and usually put Grab a little higher. A pre-booked car was $34 per vehicle when we checked on 12 October 2026.
| Option | Best for | Time | Cost when checked | How to book |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metered taxi | Daytime arrivals with baht in cash | About 35 to 60 min from BKK (estimate) | Meter from 35 or 40 THB, plus 50 THB surcharge and tolls; guides estimate 350 to 500 THB all in | Queue ticket at the Level 1 rank |
| Grab | Travelers who want the price before they ride | Similar to a taxi | Shown in the app; one 2026 guide saw 450 to 650 THB off-peak | Grab app, designated pickup point |
| Pre-booked private car | Late arrivals, children, up to three people | 30 to 45 min (listing) | $34 per vehicle up to 3 (12 Oct 2026) | Jub BKK Taxi on Viator |

Where each one picks you up
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Airports of Thailand puts the public taxi rank on Level 1, the arrivals ground floor, between Gates 4 and 7 on the inner curb. It runs 24 hours. Take a queue ticket from the machines there and wait for your number; the wait depends on demand. Grab picks up on the same level at Gate 4, one curb further out. The airport says you can request a ride from anywhere in the terminal, but you must meet the car at the designated point. Grab has added a PIN pickup system and a 12-lane pickup zone at the airport. Some blogs describe other pickup spots, so follow the point shown in the app.
Don Mueang (DMK) changed its rules on 1 March 2026. According to Thai press reports of the airport’s new rules, public taxis now load at Terminal 1, Level 1, Gate 8, and on Level 1 of the parking garage next to Terminal 2. Airports of Thailand lists the Grab service point at Terminal 2, Level 1, Gate 14, and names no Grab point at Terminal 1. Other guides give different gate numbers, so trust the airport signs and the pin in your app. The Don Mueang airport guide covers the rest of the terminal, and the Suvarnabhumi guide does the same for BKK.
How each fare is worked out
A taxi runs on the meter set by Thailand’s Department of Land Transport, starting at 35 or 40 THB depending on the size of the taxi. On top of that you pay the driver a 50 THB airport surcharge and any expressway tolls. A traffic-jam rate applies when the car crawls below 6 km/h, so rush hour adds to the meter. The airport says trips beyond about 20 km may be priced by agreement, which covers runs to Pattaya or Hua Hin. Settle the price before you leave the curb for those; the Pattaya guide has the details.
Grab gives you a price in the app before you confirm. The airport’s Grab page lists no airport fee for riders. One guide says tolls and surcharges are added to the app price afterwards, and we could not confirm that or any Grab airport fee, so open the fare breakdown in the app before you confirm. Grab sells three services at Suvarnabhumi: Grab Taxi, which books a certified metered taxi, plus GrabCar and JustGrab.
Which one costs more
There is no official fare table from either airport, so every figure here is a guide’s estimate. A July 2026 guide put a metered taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit or Silom at about 350 to 475 THB including the surcharge and tolls, and GrabCar at about 450 to 650 THB off-peak, rising to 700 to 900 THB in rain or rush hour. A June 2026 guide says ride-hailing usually runs 10 to 20 percent above the meter. From Don Mueang, guides estimate a taxi to central Bangkok at about 250 to 450 THB.
Treat those as a rough guide and compare on the day. In heavy traffic or rain, the taxi queue may come out cheaper than the app. At quiet times, Grab’s fixed quote spares you from watching the meter. The full Bangkok airport taxi guide works through the meter, tolls and luggage fees. For a fuller picture of fares into the city, see Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok and Don Mueang to Bangkok.
Paying, licensing and the apps on the day
Plan to pay a taxi in baht cash. AirAsia’s airport guide says taxis at Don Mueang take cash only. Grab takes a card saved in the app or cash.
Airports of Thailand lists Grab as a licensed ride-hailing service at Suvarnabhumi. The rules around app drivers have been tightening: since 31 March 2026 drivers need a public driving licence and a registered public vehicle, and Thai media reported a 30 September 2026 deadline for platforms to clear unlicensed drivers. We could not confirm what changed after that date. Bolt’s operating approval was also in doubt from May 2026. Bolt has offered scheduled rides with flight tracking at both airports since March 2025, but check the app on the day. If few cars show up in either app, the taxi queue is your fallback.
Taxi drivers may not refuse a fare, and refusals have drawn fines of up to 1,000 THB. To complain, call the Department of Land Transport hotline on 1584 or the Tourist Police on 1155.
When a pre-booked car makes more sense
Taxis and Grab run around the clock at Suvarnabhumi, but late at night you join whatever queue is there, and the Airport Rail Link has stopped by about midnight. A pre-booked car puts a named greeter in arrivals and fixes the price before you fly. Jub BKK Taxi was $34 per vehicle for up to three travelers when we checked, with a greeter near Gate 4 on the arrivals floor and 90 minutes of free waiting. It is rated 4.94 from 80 reviews, the highest rating among the Suvarnabhumi city transfers we compare. Its listing does not say whether tolls are included, so ask. Our Jub BKK Taxi review has the full listing.
If you want tolls in the price, My Bangkok Holiday’s Suvarnabhumi transfer was $31.96 per car for up to two with the expressway fee included (our review). At Don Mueang the same operator’s DMK transfer costs the same. Bigger groups should read the private transfers comparison, which covers SUVs and vans.
Practical tips
- Carry small baht notes for the 50 THB surcharge and the tolls.
- Ask the driver to use the meter, and agree the fare first for trips beyond the city.
- In Grab, check the pickup pin before you walk out, and use the PIN pickup if the app offers it.
- If a taxi refuses you, note the time and call 1584.
- Have a data connection ready before you leave the baggage hall if you plan to use an app.
Quick recommendations
- If you have cash and no data plan → the taxi queue on Level 1.
- If you want the price before you ride → Grab, at the pickup point the app shows.
- If it is raining or rush hour → compare the Grab quote with the taxi queue.
- If you land late, with children or as three → pre-book Jub BKK Taxi.
- If you land at Don Mueang → follow the airport’s new pickup signs, or pre-book My Bangkok Holiday’s DMK car.
What we checked
Pickup points and fare rules for Suvarnabhumi come from Airports of Thailand’s own pages, and those for Don Mueang from Thai press reports of the March 2026 rules. Taxi and Grab price ranges come from travel guides published in 2026 and are estimates only. The private car prices come from Viator and GetYourGuide on 12 October 2026, chosen for rating and a clear per-vehicle price. Inclusions vary by listing, so read what each one covers before you book.

Yes. Airports of Thailand lists Grab as a licensed ride-hailing service at Suvarnabhumi, with pickup on Level 1 at Gate 4, outer curb, 24 hours a day. Don Mueang has its own Grab pickup points, so follow the point shown in the app.
From the airport, usually not, according to travel guides: one puts ride-hailing 10 to 20 percent above the meter, and Grab prices rise in rain and rush hour. These are estimates, so compare the app quote with the taxi queue on the day.
The airport's Grab page lists no fee for riders, and we could not confirm one. One guide says tolls and surcharges can be added to the app price, so check the fare breakdown before you confirm. Metered taxis add a 50 THB airport surcharge.
On Level 1, the arrivals ground floor, at Gate 4 on the outer curb, one curb beyond the taxi rank. You can request the ride anywhere in the terminal, but the car meets you at that point. See the Suvarnabhumi guide.
Airports of Thailand lists the Grab service point at Terminal 2 (domestic), Level 1, Gate 14, and names no Grab point at Terminal 1. Other guides give different gates, so follow the app. See the Don Mueang guide.
Use the official rank, where taxis run on the meter set by the Department of Land Transport. Drivers may not refuse a fare, and you can complain to the DLT hotline on 1584 or the Tourist Police on 1155.
Bolt has offered scheduled rides with flight tracking at both airports since March 2025, but the renewal of its operating approval was in doubt from May 2026. Check the app on the day, and keep the taxi queue as a fallback.
Late at night, with children or with three people and bags. Jub BKK Taxi was $34 per vehicle for up to three when we checked on 12 October 2026, with a greeter at Suvarnabhumi. Compare more on the private transfers page.
